Holi Party

Updated: Sep 19, 2020

There are a few things without which a millennial Holi party is incomplete - an endless supply of beers, minimalist yet colorful decor, organic gulaal, and of course delicious easy-to-eat food that beats the heat!

The festival of colors is a great affair for my family and friends as we all get together to celebrate it by the poolside at our place. With nearly 40+ people to accommodate we split the party between the rooftop for the adults who enjoy the chaat and food, and the younger generation that likes to live it up by the poolside with a beer in their hands.

Since Holi usually gets messy, we kept the decor to a minimal yet inviting - vibrant drapes to add a pop, matching fresh flowers that made the whole place fragrant, colourful napkins, plates, and glasses (lest anyone forget it’s Holi), and finally - platefuls of organic gulaal and bucket loads of water-filled balloons. As considerate hosts, we also kept aside some towels for everyone - as things were bound to get messy.

For food, we went the traditional way with live counters of Indian Chaats like Golgappe, Tikki (you get the vibe) set up on the rooftop. With an open bar serving easy to mix drinks like chilled beer to vodka, we also kept some options for the non-alcoholic - the traditional thandaai, and basic beverages. To add another element to our menu, we ordered fresh fruit popsicles since it was a sunny day and there’s nothing better than that to cool down. And since we all know, no true millennial party is ever a party without a Hookah - there was that!

With everything in place for a day of fun (or in this case, a colourful Holi mess) everyone had a great time playing around, chilling in/by the pool, and singing along to some desi Bolly tunes...
