Covid and birthday is a bitter-sweet combination, but for my sister, i bet it was one of the best. We were stuck at home for her 25th birthday and couldn't have any friends over. Inspired by our fairytale fantasies and Pinterest hacks, we decided to convert our drawing room into a huge blanket fort. We took two white sheets and tied them to the hook that holds the fan, spread it outwards & kept a mattress beneath it, which we covered with a pink furry blanket and hence decided the theme should be ‘all things nice, in pink and white’.
We added a few fairy lights and pretty lamps to add to the aesthetics. One of our favourite last minute DIY hacks included stuffing the cushions into our pretty, woollen sweaters; to achieve those perfect Instagram-worthy cushions we love so much.
Given the situation, sadly, my sister's friends couldn't be there. However, they had sent some gifts for her, which we gift wrapped as per the theme and placed in the fort for her to open when the clock struck 12. At midnight, we brought out our unrivalled & undebatably delicious, Double Chocolate Intense Chocolate cake.
Some would say a food blogger would enjoy a variety of delicacies on her birthday from morning to evening, but our birthday girl's wish was clear: Vada Pav for breakfast, lunch and of course dinner; with some kept aside as a midnight snack! To match the theme, we added pink & pastel blue food colours to our homemade Vada Pav buns. Our mum made her famous Apple Crumble that we are die-hard fans of. While for the drinks, we made a pink coloured mocktail with fresh watermelon juice.
The day ended with us ordering-in from Mc Donald's (after 4 months!!! Thanks, Covid). All of us gathered, talked and laughed, while the wonderful 'Dinner & Chill' playlist played on Spotify. We stacked 3 burgers and lit a candle on top, to make the ultimate birthday cake. Our family of 4 had a lovely time hanging around the fort. We so wanted to convert our drawing room into a full-time blanket fort but alas, if only!
